Brushy Bend House -  Round Rock, TX

The Old Chisholm Trail ran next to this river. The local Comanche made their camp here, and cattle were driven to market.  This is ancient limestone seabed, and fossils abound.  The river is 15 feel deep at this point, and some 300 yards across.  The land across the river is a prime piece of the original ranch that incorporated our house, and is held in a trust the ensures it will stand undeveloped as long as the original family owns it.  During our stewardship of this special place, we saw birds of every ilk, from herons to hawks, kites and turkey, roadrunners and cardinals.  Badger, beaver, nutria, fox, coyote, javalina, and white tail deer are just a few of the animals that have appeared both on our side of the river and the other.  The deer frequently swim across, and the sight of a deer's head slowly moving through the water is an amazing treat.  The river teems with bass, turtles, and yes, snakes, though in the ten years I lived on this land, I never once saw a poisonous snake.  A peaceful sanctuary that allows the soul to heal, this property is a place of dreams.
